Garden Fence Panels
Most people ring us about fence panels for one of three reasons: a panel blew out in the last storm, the neighbour's dog is getting through, or the whole run has gone grey and wobbly and the garden looks tired because of it. It is a domestic job with domestic concerns, so this page is about panel styles, who owns which side, what it costs and how we get materials down a side alley without wrecking your borders.

What's included
- Overlap, feather edge, closeboard and slatted panel styles
- Concrete posts and gravel boards so timber never sits in wet soil
- Like for like single panel replacements as well as full run rebuilds
- Old panels, posts and concrete taken away the same day
- Trellis tops, planting friendly heights and matching pedestrian gates
- Fully insured, tidy fitters and a written guarantee on every run
Our process
- 01
Photos or a quick visit
Send a photo of the run and a rough length; for most gardens we can give an indicative price before we visit.
- 02
Panel and post choice
We talk through panel style, height, whether concrete posts are worth the extra, and how the run meets your neighbour's existing fence.
- 03
Clear and dig
Old panels lifted out, broken posts and concrete footings dug up rather than cut off at ground level.
- 04
Fit
Posts set plumb and to line, gravel boards seated, panels dropped in and capped, gates hung and adjusted.
- 05
Tidy and go
Borders swept, all waste taken away, guarantee left with you along with a note on when to treat the timber.

Why us
30+ years on the tools across Surrey & Hampshire. Family-run, fully insured, no subcontracted crews.
Local factors we plan around
- exposed estate gardens where the first storm of the winter takes out the same bay every year
- clay borders where old timber posts rot at ground level within a few seasons
- narrow side alleys on terraced streets that decide panel size and how materials get in
- shared boundaries where two households split the cost of one continuous run
- sloping gardens where panels have to step and gravel boards close the gap underneath
Frequently asked questions
- Which side of the fence is mine?
- There is no rule that the posts always sit on your side, despite what everyone says. Your title deeds or plan usually show a T mark on the boundary you are responsible for. If it is genuinely unclear, the neighbourly route is to agree and share, and we are happy to quote both households on one job.
- Can you replace just one blown out panel?
- Yes, single panel swaps are common after a storm. The only complication is matching an older panel style or a run that has settled, and we will tell you honestly if patching one bay will look obviously new against a tired run.
- Are concrete posts worth the extra cost?
- In most gardens, yes. Concrete posts and gravel boards keep timber out of wet soil, which is where nearly every fence failure starts, and they let you swap a damaged panel in future without digging anything out.
- How much does a garden fence cost?
- Fitted panel replacement generally works out at £65 to £140 per panel including posts, gravel board and removing the old fence. A full 15 metre run with concrete posts typically lands between £900 and £1,600.
- How high can I go without permission?
- Two metres for a garden boundary, or one metre where the fence borders a road used by vehicles. Trellis counts towards the height. Listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules, and we will flag it if your property is affected.
- Do you need access through the house?
- Rarely. We carry panels down a side alley wherever there is 700mm or more. If the only route is through the house we will say so at quoting stage and put down protection on the day.
