Close-Board Fencing

Close-board is the strongest domestic timber fence you can buy because it's built rail-by-rail on site, not slotted together as a pre-made panel. Individual feather-edge boards can be swapped years later without dismantling the whole run.

Why us

30+ years on the tools across Surrey & Hampshire. Family-run, fully insured, no subcontracted crews.

Local factors we plan around

  • period properties around Farnham, Guildford and Alton where a traditional close-board line suits the elevation better than modern panels
  • high-privacy plots that need a solid 6ft run without gaps between boards
  • exposed rural boundaries where a rail-built fence outperforms a slotted panel in wind
  • boundaries where individual board replacement (rather than full panel swap) is a long-term maintenance advantage

Frequently asked questions

Why choose close-board over a standard panel?
Close-board is heavier, sheds water better and lets you replace one damaged board rather than a full panel later.
Does it need painting or treating?
Not immediately - our boards are pressure-treated. A stain in year 2-3 extends life and keeps the colour even.
How long does it last?
A close-board fence on concrete posts and gravel board typically lasts 20-25 years.
Can it be built round a corner?
Yes - we mortice extra rails at each corner so the run doesn't rely on a single weak post.
