Gravel Driveways

Gravel done well looks fantastic on a period frontage - and done badly, it ends up in the gutter. We always lay gravel over a plastic honeycomb grid so cars don't rut the stone or push it onto the pavement.

Why us

30+ years on the tools across Surrey & Hampshire. Family-run, fully insured, no subcontracted crews.

Local factors we plan around

  • period fronts in Farnham, Alton and rural Surrey/Hants where tarmac and block paving would look wrong on the elevation
  • long straight drives where a grid stops the wheel tracks from wearing a rut down the middle
  • plots that shed water quickly and don't want a hard non-permeable finish creating run-off
  • shared entrances where a defined edge restraint keeps our stone out of the neighbour's drive

Frequently asked questions

Does the stone still spread?
Not when the grid is clipped properly. The honeycomb cells lock the top layer in place and the drive stays where we lay it.
Which aggregate is best?
Angular 10-14mm stone locks together best under car use. Rounded pea-shingle looks softer but rolls more, so it's better on non-drivable paths.
Is it noisy?
You'll hear the tyres more than tarmac, which is often exactly why period homeowners choose it - a deterrent to nightly wandering.
How much re-topping does it need?
None, if the grid is used correctly. Without a grid, you'd top up every 2-3 years.
